Scala Dei Sant Antoni Magnum

€160,00

We only make a few each year. These are the Magnums of our Grenache grapes. A never launched product until now, we have only put 10 bottles of each vintage on sale.

Sant Antoni is a single vineyard wine, one of the oldest vineyards in Priorat. Vineyards that have been cultivated with Grenache for at least 350 years. With this wine we have recovered a winemaking heritage that had practically disappeared in the Priorat. It consists of using 100% stems and making the wine in cement vats as was done from the time of the Carthusian monks until the end of the 1970s.

On a small terraced plain that ends in an impressive cliff above the monastery, we find the vineyard of Sant Antoni de Montalt, located above the Carthusian monastery of Escaladei. Its amphitheatre shape faces east, west and south. These vines were planted with Grenache by the monks centuries ago. País and peluda are the two varieties of this grape that are planted here.

The traditional way of making wine that existed in Priorat is recovered with this wine, which takes us back to the first wines bottled in our cellars. The grapes are harvested during the first week of October, in small boxes, with 100% of the stems in fermentation, but with the grapes crushed. The grapes are fermented in a small 3,500 litre cement tank, imitating the fermentations carried out by the Carthusian monks, with no added yeasts and are pressed in the cement tank itself. The wine is aged for 4 months in a cement tank and one year in a 1,300 litre foudre.
