Scala Dei Masdeu Magnum

€160,00

We only make a few each year. These are the Magnums of our Grenache grapes. An unprecedented product until now, of which we have released 10 Bottles of each vintage.

Wine from a single vineyard, with Garnacha vines planted in 1974 in bush vines, in clay-limestone soils where it reaches almost 800 metres above sea level in its highest part, with a south-east orientation. Vinified ancestrally and aged for almost 18 months in cement vats and foudres.

  • Varieties: 100% Red Grenache
  • Alcohol degree: 15.5
  • Total tartaric acid: 5.5 g / l
  • Ph: 3,4 Contains sulphites

The Masdeu vineyard, facing southeast and replanted in 1974, is one of the vineyards that the monks had planted with Grenache for centuries. It is located on the slopes of the Montsant, in the vineyard located at the highest altitude of the Cellers de Scala Dei vineyards (around 800 metres at its highest point). The soil is red clay and limestone.

The grapes are harvested in October, during the third week, just as the monks. We put the crushed grapes in small vats, and use 100% of the stems in the fermentation process. This is carried out in a small 3,500 litre cement tank, to imitate the temperature changes of the fermentations of the last century.
