Scala Dei Cartoixa
Cartoixa de Scala Dei is the meeting point of two lands: the dense, deep slate and the subtle, cool, high altitude clay. Grenache and Carignan grow there in the same vineyards that, for centuries, were cultivated by the Carthusian monks. They taught us how to make the wine that you can bring to your table today.

Wine elaborated with historical varieties of the area -Grenache and Carignan-. The vines where they grow are about 65 years old and are planted on terraces with clay soils and in the typical slate slopes of Priorat. The vineyards are located between 400 and 800 metres above sea level. Each year, we harvest the grapes by hand and choose the best grapes to ferment separately, taking care of the extraction, the expression of the fruit and maintaining the quality of the grapes at the time of harvesting.
This wine is made from grapes selected from the best plots surrounding Escaladei. Each one is fermented separately in small cement tanks of 2,000 kg, at a controlled temperature. Maceration lasts about 3 weeks -depending on the grape variety- and ageing, 18 months. Each vineyard is aged separately in order to better express and appreciate its terroir.
Light cherry colour with violet hues, of medium intensity. Intense and persistent aromas of ripe black fruits - plums, persimmons - and a floral touch of violets intermingle with mineral notes provided by the slate, which give it a typical Priorat character. The ageing process gives it spicy aromas. On the palate it is a powerful, unctuous, smooth wine, with intense ripe tannins, imposing body, long and persistent finish over time.
